TODAY’S DIET TIP

Drink plenty of water or other calorie-free beverages.

People sometimes confuse thirst with hunger. So you can end up eating extra calories when an ice-cold glass of water is really what you need.

“If you don’t like plain water, try adding citrus or a splash of juice, or brew infused teas like mango or peach, which have lots of flavor but no calories,” says Cynthia Sass, RD, a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association.

INSTALLING WINDOWS XP

Hi friends to perform new install of windows xp follow these simple steps

1.      Insert your XP CD in the drive. It should automatically launch the Setup routine. If it doesn’t, click Start -> Run, type d:\setup.exe (where d: is the letter of your CD drive) in the Open box and click OK.

2.      You’ll be presented with a menu of choices. Click Install Windows.

3.      The first setup screen asks you what type of installation to perform. Select New Installation (Advanced) from the drop-down list and click the Next button to move to the next screen.

4.      Read through the licence agreement and, if you accept it, click I Accept This Agreement, then click Next.

5.      Type in your Windows Product Key, which you’ll find on the CD cover, then click Next.

6.      The next screen lets you choose from a variety of options. If you’d like to copy all the installation files to your hard drive (which increases the speed of the installation and makes it easy to reinstall at a later point, but will chew up some 500 megabytes of hard disk space) or you’d like to choose the drive and partition where XP is installed (which you must do if you intend to dual boot, otherwise you’ll trash the existing installation), click the Advanced Options button. If you are visually disabled, click the Accessibility Options button and you will be able to use the Windows Magnifier and/or the Windows Narrator during setup. The Magnifier lets you magnify portions of the screen; the Narrator reads each screen during setup. Click Next when you’re ready to proceed.

7.      The next screen lets you choose which file system to use. XP runs on NTFS (NT File System), FAT (File Allocation Table) or FAT32 (FAT 32-bit version). If you pick FAT, Setup automatically uses FAT32 for partitions larger than 2G.

Why should you worry about any of this? Well, Microsoft recommends you should use NTFS, and I agree. This file system provides better reliability and security, manages your hard disk space more efficiently, and offers additional advanced file functions.

The only reason to opt for FAT32 instead is if you want to install more than one operating system on your computer and give those other operating systems access to files on your XP partition. Not all operating systems can handle NTFS, so if you intend to install XP alongside such an operating system, choosing FAT32 is the way to go.

Note that you can safely convert from FAT or FAT32 to NTFS without losing any of your data, but the process is one-way: You can’t revert an NTFS system to a FAT system.

Once you’ve made your selection, click Next.

8.      If you have an active Internet connection, you can use Dynamic Update to gather the latest XP setup and driver files. This is worth doing, as it may eliminate problems Microsoft has uncovered in installing XP. Click Next to continue.

9.      To ensure your hardware is compatible with XP, Setup creates an upgrade report. It’s worth getting a full report, which you should read and print out before continuing with Setup. If the report makes any recommendations, follow them.

I refused Hollywood to do Bollywood: Shilpa Shetty

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty says she has turned down a lot of international projects as she wants to focus more on Hindi films.
“I have left a lot of international projects to come back to Hindi films. Someone told me I was already out of sight and I did not want to be out of mind too. I want a good end product - a good Hindi film made in India,” said Shilpa on the sidelines of an event.

Shilpa also said she has not completely dropped the idea of working in the West.

“If the prospects are lucrative enough in the West, I’ll definitely go there. I have an international project, but it is still in the process of scripting,” informed the actress.

Recollecting her win on Britain’s reality show ‘Celebrity Big Brother’, she said: “I think ‘Big Brother’ has been a boon in disguise for not only me but many Asians living abroad. I’m happy with whatever happened on the show. At least, it has changed the perception for Indians living abroad.”

Shilpa refrained from making any comments on the rumours of her hosting the second season of ‘Big Boss’, the Indian version of British ‘Big Brother’.

“When any such thing happens, the media will be informed.”

Shilpa’s next project includes ‘The Man’ with Sunny Deol in which she would be seen playing the violin for the first time on-screen. Shilpa, who took violin lessons for her role, quipped: “Violin is the single most difficult instrument to play. I am still nursing a bad neck and I do ‘bhujangasan’ (yoga) everyday to get rid of the pain.”

Apart from working in films, she will concentrate on her company S2 Global Productions. She has roped in Manish Jha of ‘Matrubhoomi’ fame to direct her first home production.

She will also be seen sharing the stage with the Bachchan’s at their ongoing ‘Unforgettable’ tour in London Aug 23-24 at the prestigious 02 Arena, earlier known as the Millennium Dome.

OPTIMIZE THE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR WINDOWS XP

These are the simple basic things u can do to retain the performance of ur system,

Remove the unwanted temporary files in the system. These files are often stored in (c:\documents and settings\local settings\temp) and (c:\windows\temp).These files are created and accessed whenever the processes such as running a file in the zip or any other compressed format where the file is temporarily stored in the temp folder.
These files can be removed by accessing the above locations and removing the files present in the folder. Mostly the folders are kept hidden they can be made visible by selecting (tools -> folder options -> view-> show all hidden files). They can be also removed by searching common temporary file extensions such as (.tmp)Clear the internet explorer files by choosing (tools -> internet options) in the internet explorer window.

Disk Defragment,
When ever windows is handling files the storage of files is not done contiguously, but are stored as sections in random locations so the accessing speed of the data from hard disk is reduced.
Defragmenting the drives helps to arrange files in continuous manner and improves the speed of accessing of files from hard disk.Defragmentation is done by,(start -> All programs ->accessories -> system tools-> Disk defragment) or ( right click on any of the drive in my computer and select properties -> tools -> defragment)

Win-Win for Manmohan: inflation dips after trust vote

After the trust vote win there is more good news for the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance Government. Inflation for the week ended July 12 has dropped and is at 11.89 per cent versus 11.91 per cent for the week ending July 5, which was a 13-year-high.

It is the first time in seven weeks that the inflation rate has come down. The 0.02 per cent fall is mainly on account of a high base effect and moderation in prices of food items like sea fish, tea and imported edible oils.

It was 4.76 per cent during the corresponding week a year ago.

According to a Finance Ministry statement, out of 98 primary articles, prices of 10 items have shown a decline, while 54 items showed no increase. Certain commodities like coffee, fruits and vegetables, mutton and certain pulses like urad, moong and arhar have became expensive during the week.Inflation had been rising continuously since February mainly on account of higher fuel prices, food items and some important commodities like cement, iron and steel.
