Dhoni in two minds on demoting Dravid in batting order

MS Dhoni
Mohali: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni today revealed the team think-tank was toying with the idea of dropping off-colour Rahul Dravid in the batting order but said it was in two minds fearing the ploy may boomerang in the second and final Test against England.

Dhoni said promoting VVS Laxman at number three was one of the options before the Indian team in the match starting tomorrow but felt it was not a foolproof idea of helping Dravid wriggle out of his bad patch.

“We are thinking about that but as of now, it’s not confirmed,” Dhoni told reporters.

“Shifting Rahul to number five and asking VVS to bat at number three seems OK at times. VVS has scored runs at number three and it would be easy for Rahul too. But it can also boomerang,” he said.

“If VVS gets a good ball and gets out, there is already pressure on Rahul and once you lose three wickets, the pressure is always on the number five batsman. It’s really tough to tackle that,” Dhoni explained.

Fruits that cares on your skin

1. Papayas

“A papaya contains the enzyme papain, making it an excellent cleanser. It also helps revive blemished and undernourished skin. It is particularly good for oily skin and also lightens skin colour,” says beauty expert Shahnaz Husain.

* Use ripe papaya pulp as it is or mix with oatmeal, honey or curd and apply on your face for 10 minutes. Rinse off with cold water when dry.
* Put a mix of papaya and cucumber pulp under the eyes to minimise dark circles.

2. Apples

“Apart from vitamins and minerals, apples also contain pectin and tannin that help tone and tighten the skin and improve blood circulation. Apples are specially effective for those with sensitive and fair skin,” says natural beauty expert Suparna Trikha

* To take care of sunburnt skin, add a teaspoon of glycerine to apple pulp (grate the apple or put in mixie) and apply on your face for fifteen minutes. Wash off with cold water.

* For tired and undernourished skin, mix two teaspoons of grated apple, two pieces of mashed papaya, one teaspoon of fresh cream and a teaspoon of China clay. Apply the mixture to a clean face and leave for 15 minutes. Wash off with cold water for healthy-looking skin.

3. Bananas

“Fresh, ripe bananas make excellent face masks. Bananas don’t only tighten and cleanse pores, they also revitalise dry skin,” says Dr Shobha Sehgal, head of business, day spa and beauty zone, VLCC.

* Mash two ripe bananas with a tablespoon of honey. Smooth over the face and leave for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with cold water to reveal soft, supple and hydrated skin.

4. Oranges

“The citrus family is best known for its astringent and toning properties. Rub fresh orange peel on your skin to tighten it and lighten the colour,” says beauty expert Shahnaz Husain.

* Take the juice of two oranges and freeze it in an ice tray. Rub your face with the frozen orange juice cubes whenever you need to look good after a tiring day. The orange juice will give your tired, dull and oily face an instant pick-me-up sheen.

5. Pomegranates

“Pomegranates are excellent for oily and combination skin. Rich in AHA, pomegranate juice acts as an astringent and is a natural toner too,” says Suparna Trikha.

* Pound pomegranate seeds and use as a face scrub. This will remove excess oil and make your skin look fresh.

* Using cottonwool, massage around 50 ml pomegranate juice on your face for 10 minutes. Wash off for an instant glow.

Govt to introduce biometric passport system by 2010

With a view to checking human trafficking, the Government plans to introduce biometric passport system that will include finger-printing, by 2010, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said today. “We have decided to introduce biometric passport system.

We intend to complete the entire process by 2010,” he said replying to supplementaries during the Question Hour in Rajya Sabha. Stating that there was a nexus of recruiting agencies and employers in human trafficking, Mukherjee added that Indian workers fall for the lure of more money and resort to illegal migration and end up being harassed and exploited.

“Our policy is whenever the nationality (of the worker detained by a foreign country for illegal migration) is identified, we bring them back,” he said. Many illegal migrants destroy their passport and other identity proof on landing on the foreign soil, making it difficult to ascertain their nationality and stay on using liberal immigration rules.

He, however, categorically stated that India was not sending any “terrorist” to foreign countries using the human trafficking network. “These (people going illegally from India to foreign land) are civilians, job seekers.

We are not sending any terrorist or infiltrators into any country.” Government, he said, adopts a multi-pronged approach to combat trafficking, which encompasses prevention through stronger law enforcement, rescue and rehabilitation of victims including through repatriation of those confirmed to be Indian nationals.

Bird flu: Culling on in Assam

Guwahati (PTI): Culling operations were on in birdflu-hit Assam even as the administration launched a massive campaign to make people aware about the disease.

“Culling operations are on at large scale in all the six affected districts even as a massive publicity campaign including announcement by loudspeakers have been launched to make people aware of the do’s and dont’s of the disease,” Shyam Mewara, Commissioner Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, told PTI here on Sunday.

He said compensation has been paid to the affected poultry breeders and so far Rs 97 lakh has been given by the state government.

Confirming there was no report of birdflu among humans, the commissioner said precautionary measures were on and care was being taken to prevent the spread of the disease to new areas.

The government ban on sale and movement of poultry products was on.

Official sources said that nearly 100 persons from Hajo, Rampur and Azara blocks who were suffering from upper respiratory tract infection were being kept under surveillance.

Two districts of Kamrup, rural and metro, of which the capital city of Guwahati is a part, Nalbari, Barpeta, Chirang and Dibrugarh districts have been affected by the virus.

It’s the toughest Test win under my captaincy: Dhoni

“The toughest win. We were not present for the first three days of this Test, did not take wickets and bat the way we should have batted. But we won this match over the last two days,” Dhoni said after the match.

Dhoni was all praise for man of the match Virender Sehwag who gave a rollicking start to the Indian run chase with a 68-ball 83 last evening.

“Of course, Tendulkar and Yuvraj batted really well to finish off the match. But they were able to do that because of the start given by Sehwag. He was the play maker and without him, we would have been defending this match.

“Sachin was brilliant and Yuvraj was amazing. It was tough on days four and five. (My) batting with Bhajji in the first innings was key as we reduced the lead,” Dhoni said.

About the Chepauk pitch, the Indian captain said, “The wicket was really difficult to bat on the fourth and fifth days. It was turning and jumping. But our batsmen batted so well.”

Losing captain Kevin Pietersen also felt that Sehwag snatched the match away from the visitors. “A very, very bitter pill to swallow. But what an innings Sehwag played and later a magician in Tendulkar and Yuvraj finished it off. We thought we had a chance to win the match today but unfortunately it did not happen,” he said.

Pietersen said his side would take the positives from the match and come back hard in the second Test at Mohali.

“We didn’t come here to lose. But there are lots of positives to take from this match for us. To start Test cricket two weeks after what happened in Mumbai is terrific.

“The boys returned from a tough situation but a fantastic performance in the match. We are looking forward for the second Test. We will come back hard at Mohali.” Meanwhile, the BCCI announced a sum of Rs 3 crore to be given to the servicesmen, who died or got injured in the Mumbai terror attacks.

Rs 2 crore would be distributed to those servicemen who died in the tragedy while Rs 1 crore has been earmarked for the servicemen injured.

MTNL launches 3G services in Delhi

Communications and IT Minister A. Raja, who was also present on the occasion, made a video call, demonstrating the capabilities of 3G services.

Launching the services, the prime minister said: “I congratulate MTNL and the communications minister for launching the 3G service.”

“Competition has to be the major propeller of the Indian economy and it has to be a sustainable one,” he said while demonstrating the mobile TV facility available with 3G services.

“However, effective objective and impartial regulations have to be an integral part of all these processes for investors to invest further,” he added.

Added Raja: “BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd) and MTNL have already been allotted 3G and broadband wireless access spectrum with a view to ensuring early rollout of 3G and Wi-max services in the country.”

While MTNL has rolled out its 3G services only in Delhi Thursday, BSNL will launch its services in Chennai next month.

Talking about the revenues generated through licensing fees and sale of spectrum, Raja said: “After migrating to revenue sharing regime, this sector has contributed Rs.500 billion (Rs.50,000 crore) through licence fee, entry fee and spectrum charges till the end of last financial year.”

“During this financial year alone, it is expected that about Rs.160 billion (Rs.16,000 crore) will be collected from the licence fee and the spectrum charges,” he added.

The minister also said mobile number portability (MNP) would be implemented in metros and category A circle by the middle of 2009 and the entire country by end of next year.

MNP will enable mobile users to retain their telephone numbers when changing from one network to another.
